Who is eligible to make a tax credit donation?
A tax credit is available to all Arizona taxpayers, regardless if they have children in school or not. Anyone who resides or owns property and can file taxes in the state of Arizona can make a tax credit contribution. The Arizona tax law (ARS 43-1089.01) allows taxpayers a tax credit up to $200 for Single or Head of Household tax filers and up to $400 for Married Couple Filing a Joint Return when contributing to extracurricular activities in public schools.
How can a tax credit be used?
Tax credits are used to fund extracurricular activities which supplements the educational experience of the student. Extracurricular activities include athletic participation fees, field trips, character building, outdoor education programs and more.
May I designate where I want my tax credit donation to go?
Yes, as long as the program is defined by the Arizona tax law as an extracurricular activity. A tax credit contribution may be used for a specific student's extracurricular activities or a school based on their greatest need, as long as the program is defined by the Arizona tax law as an extracurricular activity. May I donate more than the $200/$400?
There is no limit to how much you can donate. You can always donate more, but the maximum amount to receive a tax credit is the $200/$400. Any contributions that exceed the tax credit allowable amount, the amount over the $200/$400 will be considered a regular donation without tax credits.
